Re-using content is not restricted to only one website. cmsWorks allows several portals sharing one repository of content (e. g. articles, images, pdf-files, page elements). All those portals are free to have independent designs and domains. Such a multisite-configuration is maintained by a single comfortable, central interface. Three typical cases are

• Portals for subsidiaries/ product portals: additional websites for separate parts of the organization or important separate product lines
• Portals for campaigns: websites that will be online for a limited time with a separate Internet domain
• Multi-langue: multisite-capability is used when there are websites in different languages that share the same content

cmsWorks is multi-client capable, too. Every editorial team can design and maintain their portal independently. A good permission model avoids unauthorized access.

Multi-language websites

Multi-language portals face many challenges. First of all there is the structure problem, e. g. should all content be offered in all languages? cmsWorks supports many different solutions.

Different language versions can be separated in the following ways (according to SEO):

• document name, e. g. www.firma.com/index.it.html, www.firma.com/index.de.html
• explicit subfolders within the URL, e. g. www.firma.com/it/index.html , www.firma.com/de/indel.html
• corresponding country domains, e. g. www.firma.it/index.html, www.firma.de/index.html

When one particular piece of content doesn't have a direct counterpart of other language, you have the following options

• blanking out navigation entries (or icons)
• linking to main page of category of other language
• linking on main page of other language
• an individual solution

Within the different language versions page elements and configurations follow the same rules of inheritance. This means, set ups only need to be done once und are valid for the whole language area (unless you define something different below).
